Coach Code of Conduct

As a leader and coach with the Truro Titans Youth Basketball Association, I understand the importance of the role I play in the lives of my players, and will ensure that my conduct sets the proper example for other coaches, team members, and spectators. I accept the great responsibility this places on me and I accept the following code of conduct:
·         I will promote growth and development in a positive and supportive manner. I will nurture good sportsmanship by teaching and personally demonstrating my commitment to these virtues.  I will remember that I am a youth basketball coach, and that the game is for children.
·         I will not verbally, physically, or psychologically abuse any player, referee, coach, parent, spectator, official, or executive member, even in jest.
·         I will not use alcohol, drugs, or tobacco products during any game or practice.
·         I will not use profanity directed at any youth, parent, coach, referee, or official in practices or games.
·         I will be supportive of the Association, the players, coaches and executive members, and agree to fulfill my coaching assignment with a high standard of behavior that will reflect well on the Association and upon me as an individual. I agree to support the Association in its aims and objectives.
·         I will teach and demonstrate respect for the laws of the game. I will insist on the highest respect for officials by players, parents, and fans. I will refrain from questioning official’s decisions in a disrespectful or abusive manner. I understand that disrespectful, abusive, or very negative conduct is contrary to the laws of the game and that excessive criticism of officials could destroy the game.
·         I will follow facility rules and regulations, respecting at all times the property of others.
·         I understand that I am responsible for the behavior of the players on my team.  I will model and encourage good sportsmanship.
·         I will demonstrate appropriate gestures of sportsmanship at the conclusion of a game. Be humble and generous in victory and proud and courteous in defeat.
·         I understand that if I am coaching athletes playing at the U10 Jr. Mini, U12 Mini, and U14 Bantam Division 3 and lower division levels that playing time is distributed equally to players.
·         I understand that if I am coaching athletes playing at the U18 Juvenile, U16 Midget and U14 Bantam Division 1 and 2 levels that playing time is not distributed equally to players and is distributed at the discretion of coaching personnel and may be dependent upon such factors as player skill level, athletic ability, physical development (e.g., size, speed, strength), years of experience playing basketball, commitment, motivation, attitude and effort, etc.
I understand that if I violate this Code of Conduct, I may receive a warning from the Association, suspension, or be dismissed of all club related and coaching privileges.
